Culture in English Language Teaching: A curricular evaluation of English textbooks for foreign language learners

A critical assessment of the current systematical planning and an in-depth review teaching materials efficiently improve fine educational to benefit developed learning contexts. In some countries, such as Iran, that belong expanding circle, local book writers provide English may ignore sociopragmatic language components, particularly culture. There is a blind spot massive gap in related literature regarding inclusion organization cultural knowledge these textbooks. This study investigated culture Iranian schools by conducting nationwide survey fill gap. The investigation was based on components curriculum administered used namely Vision Series . evaluation aimed at two prospects; firstly, interpret whether textbooks taught high Iran have standardized principles elements Communication Culture Secondly, investigate extent which technology curricular are implemented this respect, 5 Cs checklist American Council Teaching Foreign Languages employed. done 120 teachers reveals textbook 3 more preferable desirable than 1 2 , yet not significantly. seven indicates standards low level designed enhance learners’ competence target language. highlights role enhancing awareness circle World Englishes.
